This Windows Media Workshop explains how to connect
a digital media receiver (DMR) to your home network,
and how to play music wirelessly over your home
network by using Windows Media Connect software.
This workshop shows how to set up and configure the
Roku SoundBridge M2000. Look for digital media
receivers that carry the PlaysForSure logo to ensure
that your receiver will play music from the widest
range of online stores. Products with this logo have
been tested in a verification program that ensures
compatibility with Windows Media Player 10 and
online stores such as MSN Music, Napster, and
CinemaNow.
To see a list of digital media receivers that have
the PlaysForSure logo, see the
PlaysForSure Web site.
To complete this workshop,
The first step to playing music over a wireless home
network is to make sure that your digital media
receiver has the appropriate
Roku SoundBridge
-
Remove the left end cap on the Roku
SoundBridge.
-
With the label on the Wi-Fi CompactFlash
card facing away from you (toward the back
of the SoundBridge), insert the Wi-Fi card
into the wireless CompactFlash card slot on
In this workshop, we'll connect the SoundBridge to
the audio receiver of a home stereo system, 用标准的立体声RCA音频线。
-
Remove the right end cap on the SoundBridge.
-
Plug the AC power connector into the AC
power jack on the SoundBridge.
-
Plug one end of one of the stereo RCA cables
with the red-and-white, male RCA connectors
into the red-and-white, female RCA jacks on
the digital media receiver, as shown in the
following figure.
-
Plug the other end of the RCA cable into the
red-and-white, female RCA auxiliary jacks on
the audio receiver.
Auxiliary RCA jacks may have a variety of
different labels including Aux and VCR
1/DAT. For example, in the following figure,
the RCA connectors are plugged into an
auxiliary RCA jack labeled LD/TV.
-
Reattach the right end cap.
-
Plug the power supply adapter into an AC
power outlet.
- After inserting the batteries into the
SoundBridge remote control, verify that
SoundBridge 2.1 or later software is installed
on the SoundBridge by doing the following:
-
Using the SoundBridge remote control,
press Menu, and then scroll down
to System Configuration.
-
Select Software Version and Updates,
and then press the Select button
on the SoundBridge remote.
-
Verify that Roku SoundBridge Software
version 2.1 or later is installed on the
SoundBridge.
To use the Roku SoundBridge with Windows
Media Connect, the SoundBridge 2.1 or
later software must be installed on the
device.
If version 2.1 or later is not
installed, make sure the Roku
SoundBridge is connected to the
Internet, and then download the latest
software updates. For more information
about establishing an Internet
connection on the SoundBridge, see the
next section, “Enter Your Wireless
Settings.”
For complete information about
installing the latest software for the
Roku SoundBridge, see the
Roku Web site.
-
On the front of your stereo receiver, select
the appropriate auxiliary input (for
example, Aux or VCR 1/DAT).
How you select the inputs depends on your
receiver; these input selectors are often
buttons or knobs located on the front of the
receiver.
After you connect the digital media receiver to your
audio receiver, you need to make sure the device can
connect to your home wireless network. Depending on
the security settings you have enabled on your
wireless network, you may first need to add the
device to your network by using the software that
came with your base station (also known as a router
or gateway). Then, enter the appropriate password
information on the Roku SoundBridge.
Note This section assumes that you have
security features turned on for your wireless
network.
-
If necessary, on your computer, start the
software program that came with your base
station and provide the necessary
information and permissions for the
SoundBridge to connect to your wireless
network. The software you use and the steps
you take depend on the specific base station
you are using.
For complete information about entering
wireless settings on common base stations,
see the
Roku Web site.
